Design Guidelines

Design Guidelines are an incredibly helpful tool for preservationists, particularly members of local historic preservation boards and owners of locally designated historic properties. Design Guidelines typically include an brief history of a neighborhood or historic district’s development as well as an overview of the architectural types and styles present within the district and an explanation of their character defining features. Most importantly, however, design guidelines provide recommended treatments for the repair and maintenance of historic structures that expand upon the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
